Tofino 2017

I finally made it to Tofino.  I have wanted to go forever and this year I decided my birthday was the perfect time.  Going anywhere with two kids is quite the task and this was no exception. After a lot of planning and packing we were on the road headed for the ferry.

After the ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay it was a long and winding drive into Tofino. Thankfully both boys slept the majority of the way.

We stayed in an upper cabin at Ocean Village. It was beautiful, clean and came with an amazing view.  I chose Ocean Village for a few reasons.  One, because I knew people who had stayed there and loved it, two, because the units come with a kitchen which cuts down on food cost during your stay, and three, because it has a covered pool and hot tub which is perfect for the unpredictable Tofino weather.  While we were there we also saw that they have a bbq area which would have been awesome to use.  We were pleasantly surprised with Ocean Village.  The pictures online looked great but it was even better in person.

We got in late so we watched a bit of A Secret Life of Pets and called it a night.

Since Sean was sleeping Easter morning we had an egg hunt and Easter breakfast our first morning in Tofino and then went out to explore.  Later on we met up with friends at the Ucluelet Aquarium and went to Black Rock Oceanfront Resort for Lunch.  I wish I would have taken pictures at lunch. It was an incredible view.

My 28th Birthday

On my birthday we headed into town to Rhino for London Fogs and a Bronut.  We spent the afternoon looking in the shops and playing at the playground.

Tacofino for lunch is a must!

We were lucky enough to have a friend offer to watch Owen so Sean, Jake and I could go out for a nice dinner at Shelter.

We packed up the next morning and headed into Parksville before getting the ferry home.

Overall Thoughts

– Be careful on the drive there.  Give yourself lots of time.

-Prepare for rain.

-Bring your own food to cut down on food cost.

-Consider going in off season.  Tofino is a small place with smaller shops. Although it is a fun place to be I couldn’t imagine what it looks like at the height of the tourist season.

-Be sure to try some of the great food they have to offer.  Our favourites were Tacofino fish Tacos, doughnuts at Rhino and chocolate from Chocolate Tofino 🙂

-We had a wonderful time there as a family but I also think it would make a relaxing couples trip.

-The sunsets are magical!  Cant wait to go back one day.

Finding a new normal

Hi! It’s been awhile and there has been a big change in our family.

He is so sweet and we are madly in love. My hubby took 6 weeks off to help me recover and returned to work this week so me and boys are trying to find our new normal.

Here’s a run down of the first day on our own.

I decided we should try to get out of the house and do a few errands.  It took me twice as long as I thought it would to get everyone packed up and in the car so by the time we arrived at the first stop it was late afternoon and Owen had fallen asleep in his car seat. I couldn’t figure out how I would carry two kids and push a cart so I just turned around headed home. Better luck tomorrow. Other than Owen emptying a brand new bottle of baby soap into the bath for “more bubbles” I’d say the day went ok.

More pictures of our sweet Jake to be posted tomorrow 🙂

January Favourites

Here are the links to my January favourites:

Paul Mitchell Lavender Mint Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner.  I keep going back to this shampoo and conditioner.  It makes me feel like I’ve just had my hair washed at the salon every time I use it.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Stick Foundation. Make sure you are matched correctly for your skin tone with any foundation you purchase.  I personally like applying this foundation with a brush.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner.

The combo of Mac lipliner in Spice and lipstick in Velvet Teddy.

Aveda Beautifying Body Moisturizer with uplifting aroma.  This is the perfect moisturizer to use after a nice long bath.  This is not my daily moisturizer because it is expensive but it is as close as I get to going to the spa these days.

These are not cheap purchases, but spending the money initially on quality products will save you money in the long run by lasting longer.
